As a volunteer, supporter or contractor engaging with Willoughby Votes or helping with campaigns for community independent candidates for the people of Willoughby, I will behave in a way that furthers our cause and reflects our values of Respect, Integrity, Transparency, Accountability, Honesty, Positivity, Inclusivity, Trust, and Courage.  

I will strive to:  

  • Be my best self. This means I will think, speak and act mindfully, for example, I listen to and acknowledge other people’s points of view; I don’t post anything about someone else on social media that I wouldn’t say to a person in real life.  

  • Engage in positive action and communication. I will not disparage or defame any person, including sitting State or Federal MPs or local government councillors.   

  • Be welcoming and inclusive of all. I will listen to and respect all residents of our community.  

  • Demonstrate honest and decent behaviours. The people with whom I interact will feel respected, heard and that they have had a constructive experience with Willoughby Votes and other NSI campaigns.

  • Refer to reputable sources and respect scientific consensus. Where I am not sufficiently knowledgeable about an area, I will direct questions, queries and/or complaints to those in Willoughby Votes or NSI who know the answer or are delegated to address those matters.

Thank you for your interest in joining Willoughby Votes. We’re very pleased to have your help with our community’s independent campaign in Willoughby..  

Community independents rely on and enjoy the support of volunteers from Willoughby and the wider community. Your enthusiastic and principled participation is absolutely vital. We will make efforts to ensure that volunteers work in a fun, respectful and safe environment.  

This is a Volunteer Agreement between you and Willoughby Votes. This Agreement sets out the mutual obligations and the standards of behaviour and expectations for Willoughby Votes volunteers.  

You are participating as a volunteer for Willoughby Votes at your own risk at all times. 

This Agreement does not create an employment, contractor or agent relationship between you and Willoughby Votes or NSI and it may be cancelled at any time by us or by you.  

As a volunteer for Willoughby Votes you understand the following: 

  • all duties are on a voluntary basis and you will not receive remuneration or payment for this work;   

  • you are not entitled to incur expenses on behalf of Willoughby Votes or NSI;

  • you are not to speak, post or otherwise communicate on behalf of Willoughby Votes unless specifically authorised in writing to do so. 

You confirm that you are not a current member of a political party.  

Willoughby Votes values our volunteers and we will endeavour to provide you with: 

  • an orientation and any training necessary for the volunteer role; 

  • a safe environment for you to volunteer;

  • respect for your privacy, including keeping your private information confidential; and

In addition, you agree to: 

  • abide by the Code of Conduct (see above); 

  • participate in an induction program;

  • only undertake duties you are authorised to perform, and follow reasonable directions and instructions that we give you;   

  • notify an officer or member of Willoughby Votes of any health and safety issues or potentially hazardous situations that may pose a risk to you or others, and report any accidents or incidents relating to staff, volunteers or a location; 

  • use any property or equipment given to you safely and only for the purpose of volunteering and return it to the organisation when you finish; 

  • comply with the law at all times; and 

  • comply with Willoughby Votes policies. 

The health and safety of you and others 

The safety of everyone who is involved in Willoughby Votes and our organisation is a priority. 

Under the Work Health and Safety Act 2011 (NSW) (WHS Act) and other laws, Willoughby Votes has a duty of care to minimise risks to everyone affected by its conduct (including paid employees and volunteers). 

It also means that as a volunteer, you may have WHS responsibilities too.   

These include to: 

  • take reasonable care for your own health and safety; 

  • take reasonable care for the health and safety of others; 

  • comply with any reasonable instruction; 

  • let us know of any concerns you may have about safety and/or fitness in undertaking your role; 

  • comply with all reasonable policies and procedures of Willoughby Votes ; and

  • treat others with the respect with which you wish to be treated.

Photo Consent 

You allow us to use photos of you taken while undertaking your volunteer activities. We will use such photos to market and promote Willoughby Votes and our campaigns on behalf of community independents.  This may include the use of your image in printed and digital marketing, and on social media. 

We will endeavour to ask if you are happy to be in any photos and to include or exclude yourself. We also won’t list your name if we use a photo of you unless we have your consent.  

Public Health 

When carrying out your volunteer role you agree to comply with public health orders. We and you acknowledge that public health orders and government mandated requirements are dynamic. 

You should not attend any activity if you have symptoms of COVID-19 or any other infectious condition. You must not attend any activity if you have tested positive to COVID-19 and have not been cleared by the relevant authority or are otherwise required to isolate.   

Intellectual Property 

You agree that the ownership of any intellectual property rights in any materials developed by Willoughby Votes or NSI will not be altered, transferred or assigned.  

You assign all intellectual property rights and interests (including copyright) in any content, processes, documentation, reports and/or other materials developed in relation to, or in connection with, the provision of voluntary services under this Agreement to Willoughby Votes or NSI. 

You consent to the use by Willoughby Votes or NSI of such creations in a manner reasonably contemplated by the voluntary services provided under this document. As a volunteer you also agree not to bring any claim for infringement of your moral rights in respect of that use. 

Confidential Information and Privacy 

In the course of your volunteer role, you may be given information which is marked confidential or which is obviously confidential.  You agree to keep any such information confidential and only use it for the purpose for which it is given to you.  You may not use or disclose that information for any other purpose, unless required by law. 

You also agree to abide by Willoughby Votes Privacy Policy which, among other things, strictly prohibits the use of contact details, for example, of donors or subscribers, for purposes other than those for which they were collected.
